Technology 1: Go Venture Simulation Software

Rationale:
Simulation games provide students with experience in a virtual setting that they normally wouldn’t be able to experience in the classroom. This realistic learning experience can virtually happen in the school time and classroom setting with the clicking of buttons on a computer. “Providing students the opportunity to visualize and model improves their chances for understanding. Simulations enhance this potential by making modeling dynamic” (Marzano, Pickering, & Pollock, 2001). This is very important because students can control the situation and change different criteria to see what would happen without being in harms way. They will have hands on of a realistic situation in a virtual environment.
Resources Needed:
· Simulation Software Prices (Lemonade Stand, Micro Business, and Stock Market each $199 0ne seat, $399 thirty seats) (Accounting $199 0ne seat, $799 thirty seats) (Point of Sale $99 five seats )all from Go Venture and age appropriate on computers.
· Computers in classroom

Technology 2: Jeopardy Labs Online Games

Rationale:
Online gaming allows you to play the games you create anywhere in the world. Students can play these games on the classroom computers, lab computers, public library computers, or home computers. This allows them access to the information being taught in the classroom 24/7.Gaming teaches competition strategies, cooperation and teamwork, and conflict resolution” (Neubecker, 2003). Games are motivating, involving, and provide feedback immediately. Having the electronic games you, as a teacher, create and put online allows your students a fun and exciting way for tutoring, practice skills, and homework practice (without knowing it is).
Resources Needed:
· Computer with access to internet in classroom
· Free website and templates.

Technology 3: PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel Games

Rationale:
Creating your own games from these templates allows you to take the information you are teaching and turn it interactive learning through the games you create. This technology allows you to make tangible games to be used in your classroom, outside, at home, or wherever you want the students to use them.Games and modeling activities can elicit curiosity; create a demand for knowledge, and enable students to discover knowledge through exploration” (Edelson, 1998).
Resources Needed:
· Computer with access to internet in classroom
· Materials needed to make the games you create on the computer (all vary and provided by teacher)

Educational Challenge: Student Motivation and Simulation Games
In education it is imperative to engage your students so learning can take place. It research shows that using games to teach results in higher test scores. What better strategy then simulation and games to meet the educational challenge of student motivation. Simulation games provide students with experience in a virtual setting that they normally wouldn’t be able to experience in the classroom. In using simulation games you can teach cooperative learning through role-playing situations. Students can do experiments in science or other areas without causing harm to themselves and learn about the effects of changing variables. All students like to test their limits so why not do it in a virtual setting.
